days seen, What old December’s bareness everywhere!’ December can be a joyous
month but it is also cold and dark in the Northern Hemisphere. I wish you all a
sheltered and hopeful Winter Solstice. Together we can and must make the world
a better place.
In the meantime, I repeat what I have

Putin! Thou son of hell! Our thoughts and support are still needed to the
people of Ukraine, and the people of Russian who hate this war. Protest in any
way you can! And don’t give up hope. ‘True hope is swift, and flies with swallow's wings.’

- The Tempest is scheduled to play at Dramaten.
- Thirteen-old Marty (Natalie Portman) in the film Beautiful Girls compares Will (Tim Hutton) to Hamlet, ‘you know that Danish guy who couldn’t make decisions’, then calls herself and Will ‘star-cross lovers, like Romeo and Juliet.’
- In the film A Quiet Place the children are home-schooled with a poster on the wall, ‘Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day’.
- In Kurt Vonnegut’s book God Bless You Mr Rosewater the author sneaks in quotes from Shakespeare as well as having his Mr Rosewater imagine he’s Hamlet writing to his wife Ophelia.
- The novel The Travelers by Regina Porter is in many way based on the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead as one of the characters reads it, quotes it and has R&Gs voices in his head, and his daughter becomes a Shakespearean scholar, having started to quote Shakespeare at the age of three. All before page one hundred (I haven’t finished the book yet).
